Card Description
: The Walmart Canada MasterCard is a rewards based store credit card that features no annual fee and a standard interest rate of 23.99%. Earn 1% of your purchases on the card in Walmart rewards, plus earn 25% more Walmart rewards when you use your card at Walmart stores in Canada. Walmart rewards are earned in dollar equivalent which makes it easy to know how much you've accumulated. Earn a bonus 15 reward points when you use your Walmart MasterCard for the first time within 30 days of receiving it.

The Walmart credit card comes standard with PayPass and secure chip technology. You can add Balance Protection insurance for an additional fee.

Note: Walmart does not currently offer a prepaid credit card in Canada.

Walmart Canada Company Information

History: Wal-Mart Canada Corp., the Canadian unit of Walmart, was founded in 1994 in Mississauga, Ontario with the purchase of the Canadian Woolco stores from Woolworth Canada.


Company Overview: Walmart competes with Canadian Tire, Hart Stores, Zellers, Giant Tiger, Costco, Real Canadian Superstore, and increasingly grocery stores such as Loblaws, Metro, Sobeys, Thrifty Foods, Safeway, Save-On-Foods, Country Grocer, Fairway Markets, Quality Foods, Mike Dean's Super Food Stores, and others. Beginning in the fall of 2006, Walmart opened new Supercentres in select Canadian cities with 14 new stores by the end of 2007. Walmart locations already carry limited grocery items in Canada. Also, almost all Canadian Walmart stores have McDonald's locations. As of 2010, Nunavut is the only territory in Canada that does not have a Walmart location.


Walmart Canada Bank: Wal-Mart Canada launched its application for a banking license in 2008 to compete with similar stores in Canada. On July 24, 2009, Wal-Mart Canada Bank was incorporated under the Bank Act in Canada.
Wal-Mart officially launched into the banking sector under the name Wal-Mart Canada Bank on June 15th, 2010. Currently, WMCB only offers a MasterCard product but could offer more banking services in the future.
